Indoor Gardening Orchids
Easy and Clean!

Before hydroculture, indoor gardening orchids took a lot of time dealing with the work and mess of conventional growing. Now you are free to enjoy that time with a flourishing collection while the efficient hydro growing system does the work.

Also known as passive hydroponics, hydroculture utilizes a double pot system with non-decaying, expanded clay pellets.

  • The inner pot holds the round pellets and water level indicator.
  • The outer pot holds the nutrient solution.
  • The indicator tracks the amount of solution.

The inorganic pellets don't harbor or attract pests. And their capillary action automatically draws up the nutrient solution from the reservoir in the outer pot.

So its good-bye to:

  • Monitoring media decomposition.
  • Tracking numerous watering requirements.
  • Dealing with assorted pests.

Good Growing!

Organic media such as orchid bark, sphagnum moss and coconut husk progressively break down. Air pockets collapse. Orchid roots are deprived of oxygen and cease to function.
  • Bacteria multiply.
  • Roots rot.
  • Plants decline.

In hydroculture, the grow rocks are inorganic. No deterioration. No collapse. Yet they hold the essential elements to maintain a vibrant collection – continuously.

  • Water and food are readily available in each fired-clay rock.
  • Oxygen freely flows through gaps between the small globes.
  • Plants thrive and bloom.

A Variety of Types to Grow!

Hybrid or species. Seedling to blooming size. Most orchids raised as houseplants readily adapt to hydro growing.

Recommended genera:

  • Angraecum
  • Cattleya
  • Lycaste
  • Masdevallia
  • Miltonia
  • Miltoniopsis
  • Oncidium
  • Oncidium Intergenerics
  • Paphiopedilum
  • Phalaenopsis
  • Phragmipedium
  • Psychopsis

I don't recommend types that:

  • Grow flower spikes down through the medium to bloom below the plant (Stanhopea).

  • Develop to a size requiring a flatbed truck for transport (Grammatophyllum speciosum).

Windowsill growing or under lights, passive hydroponics gives me the best results I've seen in decades - with the least effort. The added time to enjoy these breathtaking flowers is tropical icing on the cake.

So come along as I guide you with tips and recommendations to an easy way of indoor gardening with orchids.

Your plants just might reward you for it!
